Family restaurant Dačický with almost two hundred years of tradition
The traditional old-style Dačický restaurant in the historical centre of Kutná Hora is proud of its original 19th century wooden gazebo and a large summer garden with centuries-old lime trees. It offers an unusual way of serving of the King´s sword, baked pork knee, marinated pork ribs, as well as original specialties such as wild boar goulash with gingerbread dumplings. Also the beer degustation of six draft beers, including tank beer from the restored Kutná Hora brewery is very popular.
History of Dačický restaurant dates back to the 19th century. Originally it was located next door. The pub became popular under the direction of well-known innkeeper Mr. Šašek during the 20´s and 30 ´s. The restaurant was moved into this building later and during the 70´s it was decorated by the artists Dobroslav Foll and Frantisek Skála sr., which has created today´s look.
Mikuláš Dačický from Heslov (1555 – 1626) is the most famous native of Kutná Hora, who was born in the house next door. He spent his youth as a renaissance rebel who killed a man in a pub skirmish, and his old age as a mentor and author of chronicle memoirs and poems.
His family founded local brewery in the 16th century. This is where the famous Kutná Hora beer came from.
A family business with respect for the history and customers
Our family has been running the restaurant since its re-opening in 2001. Both the building and the interior were in terrible condition. The garden was desolate, the original wooden gazebo from the 19th century was crumbling. Nevertheless, it was clear that this is a unique space.
The original paintings and wall decoration by František Skála sr. and Dobroslav Foll were supplemented by the elements that were once in the interior, but their appearance was not preserved even in the photographs. For example, the richly carved chandelier in the front room with mermaids hanging from it. We had it made according to the memories of the regulars.
Years later, an opportunity led us to buy a house next to the native place of Mikuláš Dačický from Heslov. In 2017, we opened a cafe there, and in June 2020, we also opened the Dačický Apartments.
We all sacrifice most of our time and energy to our work, but even after more than twenty years of running the business, we enjoy it and when guests leave satisfied, willing to come back, it is the greatest reward and motivation at the same time.
